TPI Applauds Updated BC Regulations
12/10/2008 - Travel Professionals International

WINNIPEG, CANADA – Travel Professionals International (TPI), Canada’s largest network of home-based travel agents, welcomes the newly announced revisions to the Travel Industry Regulation under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act of British Columbia (BC) as a further sign of acceptance of the home-based travel agent model in Canada’s third most populous province.

Effective 1 April 2009, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (PSSG) will eliminate much of the red tape associated with operating non-storefront travel agencies in BC.

“With the PSSG’s decision to revise its practices, home-based agents in BC will now be afforded the same opportunities to succeed as their peers across the country,” said Phil Sproul, TPI’s Executive VP and COO.

After an extensive consultation process with the Travel Industry Advisory Group (TIAG), industry groups such as the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA), industry leaders such as TPI, and other respective stakeholders, BC now follows a similar regulatory path as other provinces in order to facilitate home-based travel agents as a viable and respected segment of the industry.

“We’re thrilled with the decision and look forward to further discussions with our industry partners to ensure a smooth implementation process for agents in BC to be offered the full breadth of TPI’s offerings,” exclaimed Tim Morgan, TPI’s Corporate Development Manager.
