05/08/2007 - Travel Professionals International

Travel Professionals International (TPI) continues to divulge plans for its largest annual conference to date, Sailing to Success, with confirmation coming that CITC (Canadian Institute of Travel Counselors) is running an exclusive training program onboard the ship to certify TPI Associates during the course of the conference cruise, sailing May 20-26, 2007, aboard Carnival’s Liberty – platinum sponsored by MyTravel. Tandem with CITC’s participation in the conference cruise will be a CITC award presentation to Lisa Geddes, CTC, TPI’s Atlantic Canada Associate Development Manager (ADM), along with Emilyn Salvador, CTC, TPI’s Manager of Client Services & Training.

Salvador has won the CITC 2006 Volunteer of the Year Award for Manitoba for which she will receive a certificate of recognition, while Geddes has won two awards. Geddes receives the CITC Board of Directors Achievement Award for achieving the highest exam mark in 2006 for an exam sitting - in her case 94% in the month of October. Geddes will receive a certificate and $100 cash award for this achievement. Geddes is also set to receive the Victor Blenus Award for the highest mark on the advanced exam in Atlantic Canada. For this, she receives a certificate and paid membership for one year. Victor Blenus was a founding member of CITC Atlantic Canada and this award was established in his honour by the CITC Regional Council of Atlantic Canada.

A sign of TPI’s commitment to continued education for its of over 500 agents from coast to coast, dozens of TPI Associates are registered to partake in the onboard CITC certification program specifically developed for the TPI conference cruise at a cost that has been specially reduced for the occasion.

"CITC is excited to work alongside TPI in using the innovative platform of their 2007 Annual Conference in making a real drive for certification among TPI’s agent network,” said Coralie Belman, CITC’s National Certification Manager, who will be onboard for the entirety of TPI’s conference cruise in order to facilitate the certification process.

“We are greatly honoured to work with CITC,” echoed Salvador, “and are proud of the interest shown by our Associates in achieving this most revered designation.”

With a conference agenda packed with onshore and onboard learning opportunities, TPI’s 2007 Annual Conference, Sailing to Success, gives those attending a chance to further their knowledge by leaps and bounds. Apart from CITC, educational opportunities will be had through supplier trainings from TPI Preferred Partners and TPI Head Office staff, plus training sessions from CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) and a special keynote speech by Terry Dale, President & CEO of CLIA.

As Salvador said of TPI’s ongoing education strategy, “it is so rewarding for us all involved in the training and education of our Associates to see their business gain such strength due in large part to their exceeding of the educational standards of our industry.”

TPI’s 2007 Annual Conference, Sailing to Success – platinum sponsored by MyTravel – sails May 20-26, 2007, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Freeport, Bahamas; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; and Costa Maya, Mexico.
