TPI Associate Makes Cruise History
12/19/2006 - Travel Professionals International

Travel Professionals International (TPI) today celebrates the milestone achievement of one of its Associates. Ms. Ruth Guiry, of Oakville, Ontario, has been accredited by the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) as an Elite Cruise Counselor Scholar (ECCS). Most impressively, Ruth is the only person in Canada to hold this highly regarded certification, and one of only sixteen ECCS travel agents in the World, according to CLIA statistics.

"CLIA is very proud of Ruth's achievement, and congratulates her on her exemplary display of commitment to the cruise industry and her cruise clients," said Tom Cogan, CLIA’s Director of Training.

The road to becoming an ECCS, which CLIA describes as the “Ph.D.” of cruising, is not one without many challenges. Requirements for the ECCS certification are strict, and include attaining Elite Cruise Counselor (ECC) certification, the successful completion of the entire catalogue of CLIA’s live and/or online seminars and exams, one 7+ day sailing on any CLIA member line ship, and the sale of a minimum of 50 cabins during the annual enrollment period.

“A TPI Associate for many years, we would like to congratulate Ruth on her success in becoming an ECCS and in her strong belief in continued education,” said Emilyn Salvador, TPI’s Manager of Client Services & Training.

TPI Associates from coast-to-coast will be able to receive their own continued CLIA training during TPI’s 2007 Annual Conference, May 20-26, 2007, aboard Carnival’s Liberty cruise ship, sailing the Caribbean.
